Not many know that Agyaat, a thriller about a film unit shooting in the dense jungles, has been partially inspired from RGV's experiences while shooting Jungle.
Jungle was shot at Bandipur Forest reserve in Karnataka. The unit was put up at a resort far away from the dense forest.
It seems while shooting for the film, few people in the unit got a sensation of being watched by some one while they were alone.
"One of the girls in the unit had lost her way for half day and she came back and just couldn't talk anything. She refused to stay in the jungle even for a day. She came back to Mumbai that very day," Varma said.
"We couldn't exactly pin point what it was but few people clearly felt it. They would get a feeling of being followed even when they would walk alone. Few people thought it is para normal presence, few
people thought may be a wild animal. And few even thought it was be Veerappan’s men keeping a watch on us," Varma adds.
This dramatic experience was later developed in to Agyaat by RGV.
On Friday night, Kamal Haasan watched his daughter Shruti Hassan's sizzling debut act in Luck.
The special preview of the multi-starrer was held in Chennai at director Priyadarsan's studio. It was also attended by Shruti, younger sister Akshara and noted south-Indian actress and Haasan's girlfriend, Gautami, among others.
However Shruti's mother Sarika was not present at the trial show. According to a press release, director Priyadarshan was very impressed with Shruti.
On Saturday, another special preview of the thriller was held at Film City in Mumbai. This time it was attended by Bipasha Basu, Arshad Warsi, Celina Jaitly, Rohit Shetty and Mimoh Chakraborty.
Luck also stars Imran Khan opposite Shruti and is set to release across cinemas on July 24, 2009.
British-Indian actor Dev Patel, who starred in Oscar winning film Slumdog Millionaire, could in all probability star in the Hindi remake of Tamil movie Nadodigal.
Addressing reporters here Sunday Nadodigal director Samuthirakkani said that talks with Dev are underway.
"We are hopeful of signing him up for the lead role in the yet-to-be named Hindi remake of Nadodigal. The Telugu remake will go on the floors next month with Ravi Teja in the lead role and we will start shooting the Kannada remake in December with Puneet in the lead," said Samuthirakkani who will direct all the three versions.
Released last month, the film starring director-actor Sasikumar, Abhinaya, Ananya, Vijay Vasanth, Bharani and Ganja Karuppu is running packed houses at 168 centres in Tamil Nadu.
The total cost of the film was Rs7.40 crore. According to the distributors, the film is expected to gross more than Rs30 crore once it completes 100 days," said Samuthirakkani.
Nadodigal, an ode to friendship, revolves around Karuna (Sasikumar), Chandran (Vijay Vasanth) and Pandian (Bharani) – the three youths in a small town who share good camaraderie and their friendship spills over to their respective families too.
The film does carry an appealing message for today's fast paced society.
There are three actresses in the film and one of them is Abhinaya, who is deaf and dumb. But Samuthirakkani says he didn't face any problem while instructing her.
"I had no problem to communicate with her. Her mother assisted us and she has done an excellent role despite her handicap," said the director.
The film also stars Ananya and Malaysia-based Shanthini.
Actor Patrick Swayze seems to have regained his health, 18 months after being diagnosed with cancer.
The 56-year-old Dirty Dancing actor was spotted wearing a cowboy hat, sunglasses and a new goatee beard at a fast food joint in Los Angeles, reported thesun.co.uk.
Just three months back, Swayze looked frail and there were fears that he might die soon. Swayze was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a year-and-a-half ago.
Tamil actress Lakshmi Rai, who is rumoured to be dating Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni, wants to get rid of the glamour girl tag and is keen to do meaty roles to prove her acting prowess.
"I haven't got the right breaks at the right time. I'd like to do films with the likes of S. Shankar and AR Murugadoss and would also like to star opposite superstar Rajnikanth. I have proved that I can act beside looking glamorous. I hope that in the near future, the glamour girl tag would give way for a 'homely girl' image," Lakshmi told IANS.
Lakshmi doesn't have too many films to boast about except Dhaam Dhoom, in which she played a doctor. Therefore the good performance of Vamanan, which released last week, makes her happy.
"I have been getting many phone calls from friends and well-wishers appreciating my look in the film. I am grateful to cinematographer Arvind Krishna for having shown me so nicely in the film," said the actress who dons bikini in Vamanan.
Lakshmi now pins her hope on Naan Avanillai 2. She says her role in the movie, which has five actresses including her, is quite significant.
"When the film releases, my stand would be vindicated. Though all my Malayalam films have done reasonably well, I'm concentrating only in Tamil films as I want a foothold here." she said.
We all know King Khan loves living life king-size. Recently after wrapping up the shoot for Karan Johar's My Name is Khan, Shah Rukh Khan set off for London with his family to enjoy a much deserved vacation.
Unlike other stars who would probably check into a hotel when they're in London, Shah Rukh Khan stayed at a house he bought in one of London's most expensive localities (Park Lane, Central London).
"The actor has always said that London is one of his most favourite places to relax and unwind. Every year, during the kids' vacation, the family of four heads off to the Queen's country. He has been spotted spending evenings with Aryan and Suhana at Hyde Park, a stone's throw away from Park Lane," a source was quoted by Mid-Day as having said.
The source further told the paper that a regular apartment in the area costs anywhere between '2 million pounds and 8 million pounds.'
Apparently Shah Rukh Khan bought himself a house with five bedrooms, which cost him close to 7 million pounds."
We're not quite sure how often Shah Rukh visits this place. But we're quite certain it must be a helluva room... with a whew!
Robert De Niro is reportedly set to star in Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse spin-off. The movie's star cast will reportedly include Jonah Hill and Michelle Rodriguez.
The film is based on a fake trailer that appeared before Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's 2007 Grindhouse double-bill.
And after two years, the filmmaker has decided to turn it into a full-length film.
A source told movie website Bloody-Disgusting.com that Danny Trejo will reprise his role as Machete, a madman hellbent on revenge, and De Niro will play a senator who double-crosses him. The filming on the spin-off is scheduled to begin on July 29.
Sandra Bullock says that she’s frustrated people keep asking why she hasn't had children of her own.
The Proposal star – who married motorbike enthusiast Jesse James in 2005 and is step-mother to his three children, Chandler, 15, Jesse Jr, 12 and Sunny, five - is tired of people asking her why she hasn't had her own baby yet, reports Contactmusic.
She said, "It always seems that people want to talk about my uterus. I''m not talking about their vagina or their penis. Why are they talking about my innards?" The actress says that she avoided falling pregnant earlier in her life because she didn't want to be a selfish mother.
"I didn't want to have a child without a partner and I loved kids too much to have them right then, because I knew that the minute I have children my life would change," she said.
"And then I met Jesse and I went, ''Wow! There's that feeling of wanting to procreate because I love someone and I see him to be a good father,'' she added. The 44-year-old also says that she enjoys the challenges of looking after her step-children and loves them as if they are her own.
She told Britain's The Times newspaper, "A life is a life. Whether or not it came from your body should be secondary, in my opinion. If tomorrow I got home and went, 'Oh my gosh, I'm pregnant'. I''d be like, ''Wow! Isn't the universe amazing?'' But what I learnt was that it's being more of a parent to care for a child that''s not yours. It's harder."
After posing for her first nude photo shoot a couple of months ago, Miranda Kerr is still continuing to shed her clothes in almost every opportunity she gets.
The critics might have hailed this movie as a masterpiece. And the box office collections might be extremely encouraging.
But has the average buzz18 user liked Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince? We invited our users to write in their reviews. And this is what they had to say:
'Great film but not a good recreation of the book'
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince starts off at the end of the last film right after Voldemort appears at the Ministry of Magic. The first two thirds of the movie is filled with great acting CGI and music but in the last part, the film simply trails off.
What happens for instance to the fight between the Death Eaters and the Hogwarts' students and the Order? Or to Dumbledore's funeral? The film ends with Dumbledore's Phoenix flying away, which begs the question where will the elder wand end up in the last film?
And then the Burrow is destroyed too, which makes me wonder where the wedding will take place in the last film.
Since they also took out the final fight scene Bill was not bitten by Fenir Greyback. So where does that leave Bill? Will he be a werewolf in the last film or a normal person? All in all it is a great film in its own rights but if u look at it as a recreation of the book it
The film does however have a few great moments. Like that one when after seeing Ron and Lavender together Hermione asks Harry if that's what it feels like when he sees Ginny with Dean.
All in all Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a great film in its own right. But if you look at it as a recreation of the book, the movie leaves a lot to be desired
First it was Transformers: The Revenge of the Fallen and then it was Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. For perhaps the first time in a long while two big-ticket Hollywood blockbusters have made a dent in the collections of Hindi movies for two weeks consecutively.
Last week the boy wizard cast his spell at the box office and managed to spoil the party for Vishesh Films' Jashnn and Rahat Kazmi's Dekh Re Dekh.
Needless to say the three releases of the week before that – Shortkut..., Sankat City and Morning Walk – have ended up as box office disasters too.
It has been claimed that the surviving members of Jackson 5 will orchestrate two memorial shows to mark their late brother and band mate Michael Jackson's birthday next month.
Jermaine Jackson has reportedly confirmed that he, Tito, Marlon and Jackie will reunite to perform at London's O2 Arena on August 29 and 30, the Sun reports.
The late King of Pop was supposed to perform at the same venue this month.
Michael died on June 25 due to an apparent cardiac arrest at his LA home.
Imran Khan and Shruti Haasan's Luck is all set to release in a few days. The movie's leading couple promoted their film on the reality show India's Got Talent.
Michael Jackson's brother Jermaine has reportedly said that he will continue his fight to bury his late brother at his favourite Neverland ranch.
He revealed that members inside the Jackson family had different opinions about where to bury the King of Pop, the Sun reports.
However, it is suggestively a choice between the sprawling ranch in Santa Barbara, California and the Forest Lawn public cemetery in Los Angeles.
Michael died on June 25 due to an apparent cardiac arrest at his LA home.
Chak De India fame Sagarika Ghatge is back with her next release Fox. The film is directed by Deepak Tijori and stars Sunny Deol and Arjun Rampal in lead roles.
Genelia's forthcoming film Life Partner sees the actress reprising the shades of her character in Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na.
According to a press release, Life Partner too revolves around a bunch of friends with the focus being on Genelia.
About similarities between the two characters, Genelia said, "I was really surprised and was telling everyone in Life Partner that it might look planned. I am very excited and looking forward for the release of Life Partner, it is almost one year and I have had no release."
Genelia has also revisited her popular number Pappu Can't Dance. Apparently while shooting for a song from Life Partner, everyone kept reminding Genelia about he popularity of the Pappu song.
Genelia later requested the choreographers to include the Pappu step. They were a little hesitant but understood her sentiments and let Fardeen Khan and her dance to the step.
The song in question is called Teri Meri Ye Zindagi and has been picturised on the couple during their honeymoon in the film.
When Ram Gopal Varma started working on Sarkar, he hoped to make a trilogy, just like The Godfather. However it seems like the third part of the franchise won't happen after all.
"Sarkar 3… is shelved for sure," the director told Mumbai Mirror adding that he could not do 'justice to it' since the graph would go down with the third film.
Sarkar released with much critical acclaim and box office success in 2005. It was followed by its sequel Sarkar Raj in 2008, which received mixed response from the critics as well as the audience.
Ram Gopal Varma hoped to make the third part where Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's and Amitabh Bachchan's characters would take the plot forward. However the maker says that despite having worked with his team of writers, he has not been able to come up with a script he's satisfied with.
"If you have seen The Godfather, the first part where Marlon Brando plays the head of the family is easily the most arresting of the three films," he was quoted by the paper as saying.
In an interesting confession, Ram Gopal Varma also mentioned that his 'screen relationship with the Bachchan family is over'. Further he refused to discuss 'the extent of proximity' of his relationship with the First Family of Bollywood.
Much is being speculated about the rumoured split and while none is speaking, this is perhaps one of the most candid confessions in the matter.
Varma however did assure that he would make 'something with 'the three Bachchans at some other stage in life'.
A little birdie tells me that ad filmmaker Pradeep Sarkar has been getting it back from a lot of pretty women these days.
It seems the poor fellow spent much time and energy trying to get Deepika Padukone to enact an intimate scene for an advertisement not so long ago.
Now when he was shooting with Preity Zinta in Chennai, the 'bubbly' actress lost her cool when her nose started bleeding! I am told that the soaring temperature in Chennai got to the pretty damsel who then simply couldn't keep her composure.
It seems she threw quite a fit on the sets and was even heard telling her staff that she wasn't getting younger by the day and that she simply hated outdoor shoots.
Of course, after she was given adequate medical assistance Preity Zinta cooled down immediately.
Oddly enough the shoot was for a face bleach brand!
